NEW YEAR. NEW NAME. NEW ERA.

“Charlotte Jr Checkers” to become the “Charlotte Rush”

Today, Extreme Ice Center announces the rebranding of the youth hockey program from the “Charlotte Jr Checkers” to the “Charlotte Rush” beginning in the 2017-2018 hockey season. The long and successful partnership between Extreme Ice Center and the Charlotte Checkers will continue through community events and with Extreme Ice being the alternate practice facility for the Checkers.

“We look forward to a continued partnership with Extreme Ice Center as we all look to promote the overall growth and development of youth hockey in our community,” said Checkers Chief Operating Officer, Tera Black.

The Charlotte Junior Rush (USPHL) has made Extreme Ice Center their home since 2015. On top of their vigorous schedule of training, practice, and travel, members of the Rush teams have become involved with the Extreme Ice Center hockey programs including Mites, Try Hockey for Free days, 5-Star & Hockey-U, and Grow the Game initiatives. “The rebranding to the Charlotte Rush is a natural transition in the evolution of our youth hockey program,” said Mike Mulhall, Director of Operations at Extreme Ice Center.

“Too often people believe you need to go north to be competitive in hockey. The Charlotte Junior Rush has defied that belief. By having our teams branded with the Junior level team, we hope to show an upward transition of hockey development that you can stay right here in Charlotte to achieve,” Mulhall said.

"We are very excited to have the Charlotte Rush name branded throughout the youth hockey at Extreme Ice Center. Our Junior players and coaching staff look forward to working with the youth players in order to have the same success we are having with our current Junior program," said Ryan Cruthers, Head Coach of the Charlotte Junior Rush.
