By XIC Hockey Management 03/16/2020, 12:30pm EDT

Dear XIC Families and Friends,

We at Extreme Ice Center (XIC) want to reassure you that we are committed to keeping you, your family, and our team safe and healthy during the COVID-19 crisis. With your safety in focus, XIC has decided to temporarily postpone ALL programming for a minimum of two weeks beginning today, March 16th, at noon.

We will continue to monitor the situation closely and follow recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

In the meantime, we encourage our XIC family and local communities to take appropriate actions, as recommended by healthcare professionals, to minimize their risk of COVID- 19 infections.

Updates will be posted on our website and social media platforms regularly with information on our plans to make-up and extend programs. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

XIC Hockey Updates for 2020-21 Season

By Brendan Logan 03/04/2020, 3:45pm EST

Hello Charlotte Hockey Community,

We are looking forward to the 2020-21 season and want to share some program updates with you as we prepare. One of the most anticipated announcements for the XIC Hockey program is the new brand name and team colors. Thank you to all members of the XIC hockey community who contributed to the rebranding process. At the conclusion of the 2019-20 season, the XIC youth hockey program will be rebranded as the Queen City Royals. The official colors of the Queen City Royals Hockey Club will be Black, Gold, and Silver. All teams classified under Travel Hockey will wear black helmets and black gloves moving forward. We recommend that players classified under Metro and Learn to Play programming also wear black helmets and gloves. The Extreme Ice Center and the XIC Hockey department is ecstatic about the new brand and hope that our players and parents will be proud to be a part of the Queen City Royals hockey program for years to come.

In years past, we have provided a travel hockey information night giving parents information regarding the upcoming travel season. This year we have decided to take a different approach. During this time of transition, we are working to build the foundation for the best youth hockey program possible. Once we feel that we have put together the most cost-efficient and beneficial program for our families, we will release details specific to team practice structure, coaching staff and game schedules for the 2020-21 season.

Our goal this upcoming season is to field A and AA coed teams at 10U,12U,14U and 16U levels. We plan to only provide one team at either the A or AA level for the 18U age division. We also plan to field B/Select teams at the 10U, 12U and 14U age levels and Girls’ teams at the 12U and 16U age levels. We will provide a competitive 8U experience comparable to what the 8U select team experienced during the 2019-20 season. There will be minor adjustments made to the format of the team next season based on the CAHA strategic plan being implemented next season.

The Queen City Royals want to ensure that the youth program provides enough on and off the ice instruction as possible for each age group. This commitment to on-ice and off-ice development will truly give each player an opportunity to take their game to the highest level. Most every team will practice at a minimum of twice a week to benefit from the balance of both skill-based practices and practices that focus on team concepts. These program enhancements will further develop your players into better hockey players.

Some things to look forward to:

Coaching announcements – we understand that many parents are eager to find out who will be coaching each team next season. We are taking this time of transition to make sure we have the most qualified coaches in place for their respected age groups. Getting the most out of each team session is an enormous part of our long-term player development process.

Pre- Tryout Clinic - We will be holding a pre-tryout clinic again like years past where players will have a handful of weeks to prepare for Travel tryouts. This will also be an opportunity for the hockey department to answer any questions regarding the upcoming season. The XIC Hockey department plans to be a part of every session either on ice or interacting with the parents to answer questions for the upcoming year.

Tryouts - Tryouts will be held at the Extreme Ice Center for all our Select, A, and AA teams on May 15-17th. We will also hold a Skills Assessment for all Girls’ teams on May 15-17th as well. During tryouts and assessments, we will conduct a meeting with the parents of each age group to break down the details of each team within the program, the official structure of our training strategy for the year, along with tournaments and league information. We will also be unveiling the jerseys for the upcoming season at these meetings.

Other Announcements - The hockey department would like to continue to send out information regarding the structure of the upcoming season throughout the next two months to raise the level of excitement for the upcoming season. News regarding our off-ice program, puddle, shooting room accessibility, and stick & puck announcements soon to come!

Again, we are excited to get things rolling this upcoming season and assure you that we are working to build the strongest youth hockey program for your child across the Carolinas. Please stay tuned for more information to come over the next few weeks regarding the coaching staff, hockey program, and the Extreme Ice Center.
